In a difficult investment environment, it is comforting to know that there are ways to get paid while you wait. While most investors would still rather be in bonds, their purchasing power is being eroded. The US government is paying investors little to nothing for taking on that risk.In contrast the following three companies offer attractive yields compared to the 5-year Treasury, which currently yields .73% and in most cases the 10-year Treasury yielding 1.77%.Johnson & Johnson (JNJ, $63.61) engages in the research, development, manufacture, and sale of various products in the health care field worldwide. The company raised its quarterly dividend by 7% to 61 cents per share. This marked the 50th consecutive annual dividend increase for this dividend king. Yield: 3.80%Chevron (CVX, $100.90), through its subsidiaries, engages in petroleum, chemicals, mining, power generation, and energy operations worldwide. It operates in two segments, Upstream and Downstream. The company raised its quarterly dividend by 11.10% to 90 cents per share. This marked the 25th consecutive annual dividend increase for this dividend champion. Yield: 3.40%International Business Machines (IBM, $199.04) provides information technology (IT) products and services worldwide. The company raised its quarterly dividend by 13.30% to 85 cent per share. This marked the 17th consecutive annual dividend increase for this dividend achiever. Yield: 1.70%
